The avant-garde texture of these neckties make it stand right away, which greatly marks its distinction from the usual run-of-the-mills, bound-for-the-office variety. This is the general rule of thumb: the greater the texture on a tie, the more casual the tie is. A cotton tie might not be exactly fit the job interview (save for the creative industry), while a knit necktie will not exactly work with anything save for a fancy cocktail party.
